New Addition to the Family

Just wanted to make an official announcement on our very outdated blog, that we are having a baby in December. We are expecting a baby girl, much to Caylee's delight. She couldn't be happier and is so into planning, shopping, and doing anything she can to prepare for the baby. We are thrilled despite being unplanned! But who doesn't love surprises, right? We'll keep you posted as the arrival date comes closer.

So Caylee is always nagging me about updating the blog. I know...I'm lousy at updating my blog. But really...the girl was driving me crazy. Finally today she said, "I'll update the blog. Give me a quick lesson to show me what to do and I'll take over." Sounded like a good idea to me. Why didn't I think of that? So the majority of the posts from today are courtesy of Caylee. Aaron the world traveler

Aaron has been traveling a lot lately with work! I have been so jealous...but it's been fun to see all his adventures in photos. In November he went to Singapore for two weeks and just a couple weeks ago he went to London for a week...which he says is his home. Catching Up

So I have disappeared for a little over a year. But I am back! I hope, I think...at least at the moment. I am not terribly good at keeping up with my blog, as most of you know. And I thought about attempting to post a years worth of events, but decided I would loose my mind. So here is a brief run down of our past year. We moved in November to Schertz, Texas. It's just north east of San Antonio. We have really liked it here. We sold our house in June of last year and tried to find another house in the same area we were at, but nothing worked out, and through some inspiration and patience we were finally lead to Schertz. And for whatever reason this is where we are suppose to be and we are loving it. Aaron and his brother got a flip house in New Braunfels last fall and living in Schertz did make that project easier to finish rather than living on the other side of town where we were. I post more about that later. We got a dog; more about that further down as well. Caylee was baptized in December, on her birthday, so that was a big event in our family. Aaron had his first kidney stone, with I'm sure many more to come in the future. He survived and said it was bad enough to cut back on soda and meat but not bad enough to give up chocolate. Aaron has been traveling a lot this past year for work. He has been working on a class action lawsuit and leaves for three to six weeks at a time. All of his trips have been to Arkansas. And he has more to come. I hate being alone, but I am slowly getting used to it. I'm still keeping busy with Real Estate and the kids are doing great! Well, I don't want to bore everyone with everything that happened this year. For the most part just keeping busy and having fun! I have a few posts below and hoping to do better with future posts! We love you all!

First Day of School

Caylee is in third grade this year...I still can't believe that...she is so grown up and mature. She loves soccer, dancing, playing piano and now she thinks she wants to start acting lessons. She wants to do everything. She loves hanging out with her cousins. And she is a great big sister.
Colton started Kinder this year! He has been so excited for school! He is all boy and I think he is driving his teacher crazy. Hopefully she survives him this year. He loves learning and really loves socializing. He had a couple girlfriends at once in preschool, and he totally loved all the attention. He keep us on our toes! He loves any and all sports and is currently in soccer.
Wyatt starts preschool tomorrow. We are both excited about that. I will have two days a week to myself...and I can't wait. He is a good buddy to have during the day though, he loves to be my shadow and help with my chores. I better enjoy that while I can.

Wyatt was having a hard time kicking strep throat in July and it turned out that he had a throat abscess and had to be hospitalized. Thankfully rather than doing surgery to drain the swollen gland they treated him with IV antibiotics and steroids. We were in the hospital for four days. It was tough because he felt fine after the first day but still had to stay hooked up to an IV which limited his activity. Keeping a three year old still enough to keep the IV from coming out wasn't easy. But we got through it and he was very brave. Now he tells everyone he sees, "Hi, my name is Wyatt and I went to the hospital." Everyone from the cashier at the store to a stranger walking down the street. And he'll tell you all about it if you'll let him. He's cute!

Aaron's Project

Last fall Aaron and his brother, Mike, started another flip house. When they got it, it was just in the framing stage and still had tons of work. They worked on it for months. They worked hard but also enjoyed the project and working together. The house is located in New Braunfels, which is just north of San Antonio. It is down the street from a lake, great location. And it turned out amazing. They finished in May and instead of it becoming a flip house like originally planned it became Mike and Gena's house. His brother and family felt like Texas is where their future is. So they sold their house in California, packed up and moved to New Braunfels. And we are so grateful they did. We are all elated that they are so close now. It's only a 15 minute drive from our house. It couldn't have worked out any better!

Christi's Trip to Boston

I had the opportunity at the end of August to check out Boston. I've never been back east...it is soooo beautiful! I could totally live there. I went with my parents and my sister Emily. We had so much fun together. We saw Joseph Smith's Birth place in Sharon, Vermont, which was amazing. We also saw a lot of the sights on the Freedom Trail. It was a great trip! I can't wait to go back. Aaron did a great job as Mr. Mom while I was gone. Kept the house clean, got the kids to school on time, cooked dinner and he even made me an amazing wall in my bedroom. I guess I should go out of town more often!

Shortly after we moved our cat, Tabby, died. We really miss her, she was very sweet. Caylee was especially close to her. She wasn't ready for a new pet for awhile and couldn't understand why she felt that way. After a few months, though, we felt ready for a new pet and needed one to fill the void Tabby left. This past spring we decided to add another member to our family. We were fortunate to find a dog at a local Humane Society that is the best dog a family could ask for. He is very well trained, super sweet and gentle, loyal and huge. He is a black lab weighing just under 100 pounds. He has been such a fun dog. He loves tennis balls and swimming. We had a great summer with many outings to the river with Bubba. And he makes me feel more at ease when Aaron is out of town. He is the best!!!

Our Trip to Utah

We took a road trip to Utah in May for my sister's wedding. We were there for ten days and made a vacation out of it. We were able to do a lot of fun things and see a lot of friends and family. We had such a wonderful time! Thanks to Mark and Bev, my Uncle and Aunt, who were go generous to let our family stay with them. We loved it there! We had a great trip and we were sad to come home! Great memories! Just warning you there are quite a few pictures!

Ashley and Spencer's Wedding

My sister Ashley was married on May 9th in the Draper Temple to Spencer Rex and we were so excited we could be there. Well, actually I was able to attend the sealing but Aaron was not. An hour before we were suppose to be at the Temple, Wyatt fell off a bed and was screaming and wouldn't let anyone touch his arm. So we thought he broke it. Aaron had to take him to an urgent care clinic for xrays so I could go to the wedding. After we came out of the Temple there was Wyatt perfectly fine. I was sad Aaron couldn't go, but I guess better safe than sorry. It was a beautiful wedding and we're excited to have Spencer in our family.

We had a great time making smores in Mark and Bev's backyard with their fire pit. Colton was a little unsure of the fire...naturally! That's a good thing! We also roasted starburst candy...which was a first for me. They were so yummy. It was the perfect chilly evening to sit around a fire.

While we were in Utah my sister Emily graduated from the University of Utah with a major in Urban Planning. We decided not to go, on account that we have three children that would not sit through a graduation ceremony. We went to the Heber Creeper instead. Another soccer season has come and gone. Caylee played this season and loved it. Her team unfortunately didn't win a single game. But she still had fun! And that's what it's all about. Colton was excited to play with his best friend Nicolas. And I don't think they lost a single game. Colton and Nicholas were unstoppable! They had a great season.

My sister Ashley is getting married May 9th in the Draper Utah Temple. We are so excited for her and Spencer. We are excited to have Spencer in our family. He was able to come down for Christmas and we all loved him, even Ashley's overprotective Brother in law, Aaron. We are going on a road trip to go up to the wedding...that should be interesting. But we are excited for the wedding! Congrats Ashley and Spencer! We love you!!! Oh and the best part is that Spencer got a job in Austin, so right after they get married they're moving to TEXAS!!! I'm so excited about that! Now I just need to convince Emily to come back to Texas!

We had a great Easter. Saturday we had an egg hunt and lunch at Aaron's Grandparents house, the Laughlins. It's always fun hanging out with all the cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpas. Sunday, we had our own little egg hunt before our early 8:30 church service. And after church we went out to Pleasanton to James and Fallon's place and had lunch and another egg hunt. We didn't get pictures of the last egg hunt, we ran out of batteries. But thanks to everyone and all they did to create a wonderful Easter celebration for our family.

Colton is a very energetic and athletic kid. He has always been very coordinated and quick. Something he got from his Dad. For Christmas he got a new bike with training wheels. He never really like riding it; the training wheels bothered him. So Aaron decided to take them off a couple months ago. And sure enough within a couple weeks Colton was riding a two wheeler. He's three and riding a bike. I didn't ride a two wheeler until I was eight...like I said...he gets his coordination from his Dad.

Well, a couple months ago Aaron was in a car accident and totalled his Honda Civic. We all loved that car...it was so great on gas. Aaron was fine...no damage to him. Anyway, rather than purchasing another gas efficient vehicle he opted to buy a truck. His Ford is getting pretty old and can't handle driving him back and forth to work 30 miles a day. So Aaron sold his Ford F150 to his brother Josh and bought a Dodge 1500 4x4 Crew Cab from Fallon's Mom. I'll admit it is fun being able to all ride in the truck together as a family. It will be great for camping, trips to the river and other outdoor excursions. Needless to say he was very excited!

I love this picture. Colton looks so angelic. He is so funny. Colton is the person in our house that sneaks all the treats. You can often find him under the kitchen table eating white powdered donuts, behind the arm chair eating cookies, or with his head behind the couch eating candy...as if we didn't see the rest of his body. Anyway, today I found a bunch of candy wrappers and an empty plastic Easter egg behind the arm chair. I called out to everyone, "Hey, whose candy wrappers are behind the chair?" Of course I already knew who the culprit was but I wanted to see if he would fess up. Colton came into the room and said, "They're mine, of course!" I guess he knows he's the secret junk food junkie, too.

Wyatt turned two last week! We were out at Guadalupe State Park...one of our favorite hang outs. Cousins and friends were there as well! And, yes, that is Colton who is blowing out the candle, but Wyatt was more interested in the truck that was on the cake! Colton certainly didn't mind helping Wyatt out.

We made it to the Comal County Fair again this. Unfortunately we missed my Uncle Blake compete in the Tractor Pull. But he got second place in his division. Way to go, Blake! Colton could stay and watch the tractor pull all day. It really is fun! Aaron's brother, Kris and his daughter, Aydia were able to come with us as well. The kids rode some rides and checked out the animals! Wyatt, isn't the most patient kid and he hated waiting for the ride operator to start the ride. You can see in some of the pictures he is going crazy waiting, strapped in the monster truck ride. Anyway, we had a great time! We'll be there again next year!

Aaron's grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their kids, Karen and Steve, threw a big party for them. Friends from all over the country flew in for it. Some people they haven't seen in over 30 years. We had a great time with BBQ, music and dancing. We are so happy for them and their accomplishments! We love them and wish them continued happiness in the years to come!

My sister Ashley was able to visit at the beginning of the month. We are always so excited when my sisters come in town. We all miss them so much! While Ashley was here Colton and I went with her and James, Fallon and baby Vance to Cascade Caverns in the Boerne area. It was fun! Aaron stayed home with Wyatt and Caylee, who was sick. I thought it might be fun to make some homemade play dough. It was pretty sticky at first...but turned out okay in the end. Wyatt ate most of his...even though he would make a look of disgust after every nibble. But he is the master of putting digusting things in his mouth. I can't wait until he grows out of that phase.

Colton started preschool this year!!! Yippie! He absolutely loves it. Lucky for him his teacher is his Aunt Michelle. She started a preschool this year out of her home. And Colton's best friend is in his class as well. He feels like such a big boy now because he gets to go to school! He gets to do fun, messy crafts that he doesn't get to do very often at his own house. Thanks Michelle! And thanks for being such a great teacher!!!

Caylee started first grade this year. So far she is loving it. Her teacher gives them lots of reading time during the school day...which Caylee loves. They even get to bring books to lunch. She really loves her school and making new friends. How fast they grow!!!

Now that summer is slowing down, we are getting ready to start school. Caylee is going to be in first grade and Colton will be starting preschool. Colton is such a boy. First of all he is now obsessed with Spider man, the Incredibles, super powers, and oddly enough church clothes. One of his favorite activities is to dress up in his church clothes and have meetings with Caylee. I'm guessing he gets this from his Dad who goes to meetings a lot. They will sit with paper and pencils and discuss whatever issues are on their mind...a favorite topic is who they will invite to their birthday parties. Anyway, yesterday I he went outside and when I went out to check on him, he was under the deck in the mud, in his church clothes trying to catch a toad. I told him to come out immediately. He said, "Just a second Mom, I'm need to catch this frog." I came back moments later to make sure he came to the surface and found this. I didn't think he'd really catch the frog.

We have done some fun family outtings this summer. We went to Guadalupe State park a few times with cousins, we went to the Witte Muesum, Brackenridge park and train, Fiesta Texas, swimming at the pool, and just hanging out trying to stay cool! Here are some pics!

Aaron strikes Diamonds!

Yes, Aaron found a "diamond" in Colton's nose. Colton had the great idea of putting a "diamond" as he calls it, in his nose. All day he kept complaining that his nose hurt and that he couldn't get the diamond out. Aaron and I didn't understand what he was talking about. Finally late that evening before bed, Colton kept asking me to get the diamond out. So Aaron thought well, let's just look to be sure. And sure enough there was a diamond way up his nose. Luckily Aaron was able to get the diamond out with tweezers. I thought for sure we weren't going to be able to get it out. But Aaron's steady hands saved the day! I think Colton learned his lesson...it hasn't happened again.

We went camping a few weeks ago with a couple of Aaron's brothers and their families (Ryan & Becky and Kris & Michelle). We had such a great time. It was a little chilly, but we didn't freeze too bad. The boys most favorite thing in the world now is throwing rocks in the river. I am asked daily by Colton if we can "go fro woks in da wiver". They can seriously do it for hours. We went to Guadalupe State Park a couple weeks ago with the kids and Colton and Wyatt were in heaven just throwing rocks in the river. It's the one time it's okay to throw rocks.

Parent Daughter Date!

Aaron and I took Caylee on a Parent Daughter Date! The boys stayed home with a babysitter. We had so much fun! We went out to dinner at Cracker Barrel, then we went Bowling and played air hockey, video games, basketball toss and other games at the arcade, and then we had ice cream at McDonalds! It was so nice to have some time just with Caylee!

Our wonderful friends, the Cook Family, who moved last year, were able to come and visit during spring break. It was so good to see them and how much their kids have grown. The three little handsome guys are only weeks apart, in fact Gunner and Hayden (the two on the ends) are only a couple days apart. We all had a great time at the park playing and having lunch together! We miss you Cook Family!

We really like playing American Idol on the Wii! So do Caylee and Colton. Colton obviously can't read but he likes to sing his own versions of the songs!

My sisters Emily and Ashley were able to come to San Antonio for spring break! We had a fun time playing and hanging out. We even went on a trip to the zoo. We sure do miss them!

Our neighbor accidentally left their hose on for hours and the water drained right down the middle of our backyard like a little stream. The kids went crazy splashing, sliding, and playing in the mud. They had such a great time...I was tempted to jump in and join them...but decided to be the photographer instead.

Roast Beef and Avocado Wraps!

I found this recipe on allrecipes.com and we loved it. Aaron walked in from work when I was just finishing up and couldn't resist how yummy they looked. He thought they looked so beautiful, he had to take a picture. And then once I realized how much my family loved them, I thought I'd share the recipe with all of you! Hope you enjoy!

INGREDIENTS
1 (4 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 clove garlic, minced
1/8 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes
6 tomato and oregano tortillas
6 lettuce leaves - rinsed and dried
12 slices deli sliced roast beef
1 avocado, cubed
1 tomato, seeded and chopped
1 cup shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese

DIRECTIONS
Mix the cream cheese, cumin, garlic, and chili flakes in a bowl until well blended.
Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture over each tortilla, dividing evenly. Place a lettuce leaf on each tortilla, and top with two roast beef slices. Sprinkle evenly with avocado, tomatoes, and cheese. Starting at one end, gently roll up each tortilla into a tight tube. Slice in half diagonally and place two pieces on 6 serving plates.

Okay, as most of you know Colton is all boy! He loves cars, trucks, monsters, dinosaurs, you know, the usual. Well recently he has added guns and shooting to the list, which I'm not thrilled about. But it's not hard to figure out where he gets it from...being that his Dad has recently taken up Paintballing as a hobby! And of course Colton has been dying to use Aaron's paintball gun. So Aaron let him play with it...WITHOUT PAINT BALLS! Caylee got a kick out of it as well!

There is a little video clip at the end of the photos, there isn't much said but if you want to pause the music on my playlist there is a pause button on it. And that might be useful to those of you who don't like my choice of music!

Our Cutie Boy!

Wyatt is getting so big! He is such a little cutie! We all love giving him hugs and kisses....although it drives him crazy. He's getting pretty rough and tough. Unfortunately he learns a lot from Colton about how to bully! Now he's getting smart about when to make his attack on Colton. He waits until I'm changing Colton's diaper (yes, he still isn't potty trained! My goal is by the time he's three) and then he body slams him and sits on him laughing until Colton is done and then Wyatt hurry and runs! It's so funny to watch!

Colton was playing with my camera and decided to become a photographer. Caylee got a couple shots in too. I thought some were pretty good, and others were just hilarious! So be prepared for the genius work of a two year old when looking at these!

Caylee Lost her First Tooth!

Well the big news at our house is that Caylee lost her first tooth. It came out right in the middle of sacrament meeting at church. She was so excited! Her adult tooth was already coming in before her baby tooth came out! We went to the dentist this week and the x-ray showed a lot more ready to pop out anytime!

We had a very wet, cold, Saturday! We were cooped up in the house for most of the day! It was nice to have some relaxing down time to hang out with the family!

Early last week we had some very warm, summer like weather. Caylee thought it would be fun to put on swimming suits and play in the water hose. So that's just what we did. And the kids had a great time!
